In what assumed to be a game of pure chance, my Yahtzee came on the very first roll…
With the Geminid meteor shower at peak visibility, I aimed my camera at the sky. Enough long exposure shots, and perhaps one might capture a streak of light.
As I shot my very first photo, simply to gauge the camera settings, a meteor dashed across the upper left quadrant of the image you see here.
Over fifty more photos were captured that night. None were lucky enough to have another meteor cross over their section of the night sky.
The image is far from pristine in quality, but it serves as a visual reminder of the unpredictability of our world — and the space far beyond it.
